DALLAS vs. OTTAWA:
Dallas edged the Senators yesterday afternoon, with a 4-3 shootout winner with Jamie Benn potting the winning goal and Kari Lehtonen stopping all 3 shooters. Lehtonen received the win and was solid for the starts stopping 33 of 36 shots. Bobby Ryan continuing his torrid pace, with 1 goal and an assist, now giving him 14 points in 14 games this year (8G/6A). Kyle Turris with 2 assists, also giving him 14 points in 14 games and if you've been reading my bits, the kid is overrated and a true second line center but has the upside it seems that with age, he could center a first line. Erik Karlsson with 1 goal and an assist to give him 15 points and now leads NHL defenseman in points this year so far, with P.K. Subban trailing second with 14. Teammate Jason Spezza also with 1 goal and an assist and it seemed like this line was clicking on all cylinders yesterday. Craig Anderson left in OT on a stretcher after being ran into by Star's, Valeri Nichushkin, while he almost made a Sports Center top 10 play, take a look at his mitts.

Anderson did give the thumbs up to the crowd while leaving on the stretcher, and reports say he's fine and is day to day with a stiff neck.
CALGARY vs. CHICAGO:
Rookie goalie, Reto Berra making his NHL debut for the Flames, after putting Joey MacDonald on waivers, had quite the matchup against defending Stanley Cup champs. Berra was superb and was able to help his team to a 3-2 OT win, making 42 saves on 44 shots. Including making Patrick Kane look like he was back in Mites, with this glove save:

Defenseman Kris Russell for the Flames, had the GWG in OT and continues to see top minutes with his partner, Dennis Wideman while Mark Giordano is out with injury and fantasy owners should take note. Patrick Kane with 1 goal and an assist, and Marian Hossa was able to put his nightmares of Raffi Torres on hold, to also score the other for the Hawks. Curtis Glencross with 1 goal and an assist, now giving him 9 points in 14 games, which 5 of those points coming the last 4 games and could be useful if you're in a pinch and in deeper leagues. Dennis Wideman also had 2 apples of his own last night, including 1 of those on the game winner.
MINNESOTA vs. NEW JERSEY:
Cue the world's smallest violin, as the growing pains for the Devils continue to struggle. They lost 4-0 last night as their record now stands at 3-7-4. New Jersey just can't find offense, and have been shutout 7 straight periods now, and is ranked 27th out of 30 for goals per game, averaging a measly 1.86 GPG. The Devils are now seeing what life is like without Ilya Kovalchuk. I picture this scenario as a poor version and under-budget, spinoff of the movie Moneyball. The Devils are the Oakland Athletics and after seeing a few seasons of success have now been gutted, as they lost David Clarkson, Ilya Kovalchuk, and Steve Sullivan. New Jersey traded to land goalie, Cory Schneider, from the Vancouver Canucks and didn't to much after that. The signed Jaromir Jagr who's past his prime, and a great player, but at his age cannot be expected to carry a team. They should have been better after signing and acquiring, Jagr, Brunner, Michael Ryder, and Ryan Clowe but the results just aren't there. While dealing with the cap hit rule change, they are trying to piece together an island of misfit toys but Brad Pitt & Jonah Hill made history, while the Devils are looking like they'll be golfing soon. I think to much pressure and expectations are put on Schneider, and they expect him to perform but in order to win games, you need goals for starters. Josh Harding back in net and won, earning his 2nd shutout of the season and he now has won his last 4 starts, 2 of which have been shutouts. Harding, now has a 7-2-2 record with a 1.10 GAA, and a .950 SV% which is unreal. If he stays healthy and his MS doesn't act up, Backstrom could be in trouble and lose quite a bit of starts. Hell, if Backstrom stays healthy, Backstrom could be in trouble. I can't remember the last time I saw him play a whole season. Jason Pominville with another goal and assist now giving him 10 goals and 2 assists on the year. Mikael Granlund scored his first goal of the season after an ugly & humorous scramble in front of the net. Right Winger, Nino Niederreiter with a play maker last night, now giving him 9 points in 15 games, with 3 points last night he now has 5 points his last 5 games. I almost put him in my article last night, Bacon Bite's, free agents who are eligible and you could pick up and ride the hot streak, wished I would have now.
