As the old expression goes, hindsight is 20-20, unless you're Boston Bruins head coach Claude Julien. For Julien, hindsight is 33-29, as in Phil Kessel and Tyler Seguin's point totals (33) in their games played with their new teams (29).
Phil Kessel, traded in 2009 to the Toronto Maple Leafs, is currently tied for fourth in the league with 18 points in 15 games. Seguin has 15 points in 14 games. The leading Bruin (David Krejci) has 13 points, and of those 13 points, only two are goals.
Boston traded Kessel in '09 for two first round picks (Tyler Seguin & Dougie Hamilton) and a second round pick (Jared Knight). Boston traded Seguin this offseason. While other players were included in the deal, Boston essentially traded Seguin for Star's forward Loui Eriksson.
So what does all this mean? If you combine both trades and think of the draft picks as traded players (now that all the picks have been made) the Bruins traded Tyler Seguin, Phil Kessel, Rich Peverley, and Ryan Button for Loui Eriksson, Dougie Hamilton, Matt Fraser, Jared Knight, and Reilly Smith. How does that all break down? Ha, like I would leave you hanging.
If you want championships now, then there's no better way to compare these moves than this season's stats:

Claude Julien loves his defense, and traded both Kessel and Seguin because of their poor performance in the defensive zone.
Somebody should tell Julien there's an equally important zone at the other end of the ice.
