Dallas won 3-2 in a shootout, with this game being Tyler Sequin's and Rich Peverley's homecoming back to Boston. Jamie Benn with the first goal, and Valeri Nichushkin with an assist after being bumped up to the first line last night with Benn & Sequin. That gives Nichushkin 4 points his last 8 games and skating just over 18 minutes of ice time.
Rookie Torey Krug with his 5th goal of the season last night, and every time I get to see him play, I become more of a fan. I just think he's the next big defenseman for the Bruins. He's physical, he can step up into the play, and is confident. Vernon Fiddler scored to tie the game late in the third period on a penalty shot. Tyler Seguin and Rich Peverley score in the shootout to end the game.
WASHINGTON vs. ISLANDERS:
Caps dominated the Islanders last night, 6-2, and on top of that....scored 5 goals in about 5 minutes.
Ovechkin was back in the line up after missing time to an injury and was right back at it again. He had 2 goals and an assist, while line mate Backstrom had a playmaker, and Marcus Johansson with 1 goal and an assist, his first goal of the year. Finally. Talk about having a hell of a year, Kyle Okposo had a goal and an assist of his own to give him 19 points in 15 games, 7 of which have come the last 3 games. Impressive.
BUFFALO vs. SAN JOSE:
Don't ask me how, but the Sabres were able to edge the Sharks in a 5-4 shootout win last night. I'll tell you why, RYAN MILLER. Stopping 47 of 51 shots, was nothing short of a miracle and the reason why I love him. The guy is underrated and it's because of his team. Mark my words, once dealt, he'll resurface to his silver medal form and his fantasy value will sky rocket.
Rookie Tomas Hertl with another goal and assist, and is still playing great hockey, despite missing line mate, Brent Burns, who's missed the last 7 games due to injury. He's back practicing with the team now. Drew Stafford and Tyler Ennis with 1 goal and an assist a piece. Buffalo needed secondary players to step up, they can't rely on Moulson and Hodgson to carry them every night. Speaking of Matt Moulson, he had 2 apples last night.
CALGARY vs. MINNESOTA:
Reto Berra back in net to make his second NHL start, and it wasn't nearly as good as his first. Allowed 5 goals on only 24 shots, where do you turn to now, Calgary? Zach Parise with 2 goals and an assist. If you're a fantasy owner who waited, it's paid off. He's gonna do just fine. Mikko Koivu with 1 goal and 2 assists, and Ryan Sutter finally having more than a single digit night, tallying 2 assists. Jason Pominville, where were you?
PHILADELPHIA vs. CAROLINA:
Where to start with this game. It was just a dull game, and there was hardly any offense until the last ten minutes left in the third period. Philly had a 1-0 lead with 53 seconds left to play, but defensive zone coverage killed the Flyers and Steve Mason. Mason was almost perfect, stopping 36 of 38 shots. Mike Millbury said this had to be one of the top 5 most boring games he's ever watched.
Scotty Hartnell with his first point of the year, tallying a PP goal which he deflected shot from the point. Claude Giroux, still goalless 15 games in, ouch. Jordan Staal scored to tie the game with the assists coming from his brother, Eric, and Jiri Tlusty. Giroux forgot to pick up Jordan Staal. Then in OT, Mark Streit tried stepping up into the play and was bodied losing the puck which gave Manny Malhotra a breakaway and he made sure to capitalize. Just a rough year for the Flyers.
